COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMMES
COMMUNITY HEALTH DIAGNOSIS AND AWARNESS PROGRAME
Due to the hustle and bustle of the day to day life we often tend to ignore our health. We don’t try to find time for taking care of our health and to adapt ways that make us stay fit. So considering these situations .we conduct a one day health checkup and awareness program at Calicut to make people aware of their health conditions and to properly maintain their health. Through this they will be alert about their conditions and can even help them to find any serious health issues that they may not be aware of.
The reported decline in the incidence of communicable diseases during the monsoon season this year in the district may not indicate an effective management of public health as more diseases, unheard of in the past or rarely reported earlier, are being reported now. Health Department sources claimed that there was a perceptible dip in the number of patients being admitted to hospitals with seasonal diseases such as dengue fever, H1N1 (influenza), chikungunya, and typhoid. Breeding of mosquitoes has reduced apparently as heavy rains have prevented stagnation of water.
ANTI DRUG CAMPIGN AND COUNSELING PROGRAM
Recent surveys and available literature show that substance use is increasing among children and adolescents. The problem is seen across all socioeconomic groups, from metropolitan cities to small towns and rural areas, with newer substances and multiple substance use also being documented. The fact that substances like tobacco, drugs and alcohol are considered to be the gateway for youngsters to tread on to more heinous crimes, calls for a collaborative and concerted effort to tackle all factors that can expose our children to such inappropriate activities. Since children spend most of their time in the formative years in schools and other educational institutions, it is highly imperative that they are provided with the safest and cleanest campuses.
Suryakanthi foundation has carried out several drug demand reduction activities. These include counseling, discussion, meeting, production of printed materials awareness classes, street play .it observes the international day against drug abuse and trafficking on 26 June with the support of Ramanattukara municipality in Kozhikode district.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP
A blood donation camp was organized by Suryakanthi foundation Calicut in association with porters union. Porters in large numbers, readily volunteered and donated blood under the supervision of doctors and technicians from the health department. Blood donation is definitely a noble act. Many clinics and hospitals constantly require blood for several purposes. This makes the idea of blood donation a noble gesture as it provides life-saving help to people and patients. On an average, human body contains approximately 4 to 5 liters blood that can be donated after every third month for men and every 4 months for women. Many people believe that blood donation is harmful for their body, however, this is untrue blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person — the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma — which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.
